[GUIDE] Food Composting

It’s National Nutrition Month 2018 and this year’s theme is “Go Further with Food”. This means different things to do different people and that’s awesome. To me personally, it is multifaceted in the sense of how my food helps me go further and also how I can help my food go further from an environmental perspective.

I’m not at the forefront of these efforts and I don’t really do anything extravagant but taking the environment into consideration is something I try to do. A tiny effort I make is to compost my compostable waste. This usually includes raw fruits and veggies, some grains, and egg shells for me.

Composting is the natural process of decomposition and recycling of organic material into a humus rich soil amendment known as compost. For any business or institution producing food waste, this organic material can be easily decomposed into high quality compost.

I don’t even know what I’m going to do with my soil but what I do know is that these are things that can be broken down. Unfortunately, often times in land fills these items are not broken down correctly due to a lack of the proper environment to do so.

So that’s one way, I try to “go further with food”. How about you? What does that mean to you?

About me

Dua genuinely believes that our relationship with food should not be complicated. She likes to focus on eating in moderation and listening to your body but this, of course, will be different from person to person and body to body.
