“”We really want to link food and medicine, and not just give away food,” says Dr. Rita Nguyen, the hospital’s medical director of Healthy Food Initiatives. “We want people to understand what they’re eating, how to prepare it, the role food plays in their lives.”

The idea of food as medicine has been around not only for the past few decades but in reality centuries upon centuries of humanity have relied on different foods for treatment. Healers of the past didn’t have medical trials to depend on but used their experience to identify which foods provided healing or could be used for prevention of different illnesses.
This is a great note to end National Nutrition Month 2017 on. As dietitians, of course, we already knew this but it’s definitely exciting to see more of the medical profession, especially doctors, jump on board.
On that note, if you are looking to further understand what you’re eating, how to prepare it, the role food plays, the relationship between food and health, and so many other things Dua is accepting clients at this time. Just click here to schedule a session.
