The Feed Yourself series is dedicated to individuals that cook just for their selves. This goes out to everyone that finds them self wanting to cook but dreading the time, effort, and all the clean up needed to just cook for one. It can honestly be a quick, easy, and enjoyable process!
It is a very simple task to brown ground beef. Ground beef is a great addition to any dish and doesn’t take long to cook. If you like browned ground beef then cook it in large batches, separate into individual servings (about half a cup) in resealable bags, and store in the freezer.
Ground beef can be browned alone or with diced onion and garlic. A small diced onion and pressed garlic clove (can also do 2-3 cloves if you love garlic) can be used for every pound of ground beef.
- Heat 1 tsp of oil in pan on medium heat
- Add diced onion and garlic (optional) and allow to cook for 3-5 minutes stirring often
- Add ground beef and stir 1-2 times per minute
- When it begins to brown it’s important to mix the beef to keep it from becoming big clumps – use chopping movements (mash, stir, twist).
- Now, season (refer to Seasoning post for ideas)
- The ground beef is cooked when there is no pink left. This should take 8-10 minutes
- If any liquid fat remains, drain it off
