International Women’s Day & Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day

Hello all,

Today is a doubly exciting day for me! March 8th is International Women’s Day AND #RegisteredDietitianNutritionist Day! Woo – double the fun today.

I’d like to give a huge shout out to all the RDNs that I know (and don’t know) for all the hard work they do to help people! I know it’s often a job without gratification (lots of paperwork, not enough human interaction) but I also know that it certainly makes a difference! Thank you to all the RDNs that served as my professors, instructors, employers, mentors, and friends.

And since, I am also a woman I’d like to recognize International Women’s Day. This year International Women’s Day is recognized by women across the nation as A Day Without a Woman in the form of striking from work, spending money, or choosing to wear red in support. I am proud to be a part of this initiative by not working (to be fair though, I’m not accepting clients yet, so can I call it work?), spending money (definitely had to change my plans for that one), and wearing red. I recognize that we are not all in a place to participate in this initiative because of job commitments, financial concerns, lack of red in wardrobe, and just general life but please know that I support you too.

I’d like to dedicate this day to my lovely mother who chose to leave her nursing career to be home with my siblings and I. I learned more from her than I have anybody in the world. You don’t have to be in the workforce to be a fierce and strong woman and you don’t have to financially provide to be worthy. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today: starting up my own business, active in my own community, and confident in myself if it wasn’t for her. <3 Are you participating today in #ADayWithoutAWoman?
