Feed Yourself – Staple Foods

The Feed Yourself series is dedicated to individuals that cook just for their selves. This goes out to everyone that finds them self wanting to cook but dreading the time, effort, and all the clean up needed to just cook for one. It can honestly be a quick, easy, and enjoyable process!

The idea of staple foods is foods you always have on hand because they are used so very often and are very versatile. The following foods are easy to buy, store, and have a relatively long shelf life. Most of the recipes in the “Feed Yourself” series can be made using only these foods:

  • Boneless chicken breast (stored frozen)
  • Fish fillet (stored frozen – tilapia, salmon, any others; individually wrapped fillets are easiest when cooking just for one)
  • Pasta (penne is the most versatile)
  • Dressing (whatever you prefer)
  • Oil (preferably olive oil, but canola oil is a good choice as well and less expensive)
  • Onions
  • Garlic (or garlic paste if you do not have a garlic press)
  • Lettuce/spinach (a green leafy vegetable or mix)
  • Frozen vegetables (California blend, stir fry blends, green beans, carrots, etc.)
  • Croutons/nuts/cheese (if you like to garnish your salads and add a crunch to them)
